A North Carolina educator, already dealing with multiple criminal charges due to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student, was apprehended again for breaching her bail conditions. She was subsequently released.
The accused, Elizabeth Bailey, 37, was implicated in a road accident on Mocksville Highway in Statesville, North Carolina, last Saturday. Two minors, alleged to have been in Bailey’s company, fled before officers from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene.
Bailey, who was in the passenger seat at the time of the accident, confessed to consuming alcohol. The sheriff’s office later located the two absconding minors. According to the report, Bailey had permitted one of the unlicensed juveniles to operate the vehicle.
As part of her pretrial release conditions, Bailey was legally obliged to maintain distance from the student she is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with. The other minor was detained under an outstanding Juvenile Secure Custody Order.
Bailey was subsequently taken into custody on a charge of breaching pretrial release conditions. The North Carolina Highway Patrol additionally issued Bailey citations for a misdemeanor related to contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and a misdemeanor for allowing an unlicensed individual to drive.
Despite her mounting charges and repeated violations of pre-sentencing conditions, Bailey was released from custody without any requirement for an additional bond, as per a Monday announcement from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office statement revealed that “District Court Judge Christine Underwood amended the bond to eliminate the $750,000 bond set by the magistrate.” The statement added, “Bailey is to remain under a bond posted from October 2022 … This investigation continues and further charges may be forthcoming.”
Bailey was fitted with an electronic monitoring device and released on a $75,000 bond. On August 8, 2022, she faced charges for a felony statutory sex offense with a child under 15 and a misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor, for which a $50,000 bond was set.
On September 2, 2022, Bailey was arrested again facing 19 charges, including breaching her pretrial release, nine counts of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and nine counts of felony for intimidating or interfering with a state’s witness.
